Centre for Interdisciplinary Music Research (CIMR) Conference
INTERDISCIPLINARY MUSIC RESEARCH CONFERENCE: MUSIC AND THE OTHER ARTS
The Centre for Interdisciplinary Music Research in the School of Arts at Roehampton University is hosting a one day conference. The conference will mark the formal opening of the Centre and will address the theme of interdisciplinary music research, particularly as it relates to music and the other arts. We hope the conference will embrace a diverse range of music interdisciplinary topics. Interdisciplinary is taken in its broadest meaning and the conference theme can be interpreted in a variety of ways. Abstracts are welcome from practice based projects, theoretical, historical, contextual, and source-based work relating to the theme.
The two main themes are as follows:
- Theoretical and analytical approaches to interdisciplinary music research, and music and the other arts
- Practice based research relating to music in the context of other arts (which may include film music, opera, ballet, music theatre etc.)
One of the key note addresses will be delivered by Prof. Michael Chanon (Roehampton University). The day will also include an audio-visual presentation by Dr. Alan Stones, who will explore his music composed for dance, Shade. This film was made in collaboration with film maker/choreographer is Ben Wright.
