“Just Crumbling to Bits”? An Exploration of the Body, Ageing and Career in Retired Classical Ballet Dancers

The Society was delighted to co-ordinate with University of Surrey Roehampton this presentation of research by Steven Wainwright and Bryan Turner.

This new research was presented at the British Sociological Association at Manchester Metropolitan University in April. It focused on a study of ex-Royal Ballet dancer’s perceptions of their bodies, ageing and of their careers. The second half of the programme was by Gay Morris entitled The Intelligent Body and Post-War Avant-garde Dance.
