Dancing with Handel

Saturday 1 September 2007, 19:30
Concert Hall, Royal College of Music, London

Royal College of Music Baroque Orchestra
Ashley Solomon director

In collaboration with European Association of Dance Historians and Mercurius Company.

As part of the RCM’s growing commitment to historical performance, we celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Marie Sallé, the radical French dancer who introduced a newly expressive and dramatic approach to the dances of her day. She proved a significant muse for Handel and performed in many of his stage works.

This concert recreates some of Sallé’s original choreography to Handel’s music, alongside startling new interpretations from contemporary and baroque dancers and the choreographers, Ricardo Barros, Madeleine Inglehearn and Jennifer Irons.
