Call for Papers
The PoP (Performances of the Popular) Moves Discussion Forum is a new initiative that aims to inform, stimulate and promote the development of academic research in popular dance and performance. The Discussion Forum will comprise a round-table discussion led by key academics in the field of popular dance and a series of presentations by undergraduate and postgraduate students.

In response to the recent growth in the number of scholars working in the field of popular dance studies, many Higher Education Institutions now include the study of popular and social dance forms in their taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. This event seeks to harness and promote the work that is being conducted in such institutions and provide the opportunity for students and academics to come together to share their work and experiences.

From dances such as the waltz, the Charleston or the lindyhop through to more recent club cultural practices, such as house dancing and waacking, the popular dancing body has been a site for the construction and performance of personal, social and cultural identities. The POP Moves Discussion Forum committee invites proposals from undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to share research that focuses on this notion. Presentations that include the sharing of practical work or visual representations of the dance form alongside theoretical discussion are encouraged.

As dance scholars, although we have a commitment to embodied enunciations of the popular, we welcome research located in other disciplinary areas that addresses popular performance and its corporeal articulations. Discussion Forum Committee: Professor Theresa Buckland, Dr Melissa Blanco Borelli, Dr Ann David, Dr Sherril Dodds, Ms Mary Fogarty, Dr Joanna Hall, Dr Clare Parfitt-Brown
