On Wednesday June 9th some members went to University College Chichester to the Society event with Elliot Caplan – filmmaker renowned for his work with Merce Cunningham.

There was a film editing workshop in UCC’s impressive Media Centre run by their Media Studies lecturer Roy Hannay with Elliot Caplan in attendance giving critical advice to participants. After that there was time to visit Dr.Sarah Rubidge and Dr. Alistair McDonald’s interactive digital installation ‘Sensuous Geographies’ where people had the opportunity to immerse themselves in an amazing world of sound and colour, which, clad in wonderful floor length richly coloured silk robes, they generated through their movement in the space. In the evening Professor Valerie Briginshaw of UCC interviewed Elliot Caplan about his work and clips from ‘Beach Birds for Camera’, ‘Cage/Cunningham’, ‘CRWDSPCR’, and one of his latest films ‘Utango’, which shows interactions between tango dancers and particular spaces and places in Buenas Aires, were shown to illustrate points made. About 40 attended.
